Summer is coming which means that it’s time to spruce up the backyard and get ready for barbecues and block parties! There are some awesome ideas around the web for making your backyard truly amazing. I’ve gathered a few of my favorite hacks that I’ve got to try. I can’t believe I never thought to do these things before!
Good Housekeeping created herb planters using metal troughs! I love this idea–it helps to create a rustic garden feel, and keeps your herbs handy. I also love the idea of creating a small potted plant garden on a porch. Porches and decks can feel a bit austere unless you’ve got some greenery going on.
Kelly’s Moonlight posted a hack that’s all about color! She painted otherwise boring folding chairs to give them a new & vibrant life. I love how beautiful these colors are, but you could chose any color of paint that coordinates with your outdoor space. You’ve got to do this before your next party.
My Repurposed Life posted this DIY planter project that is so adorable! You can find old dresser drawers anywhere. Then you just add some spindle legs, a fresh coat of paint, and some bright & beautiful plants, and you’ve got a brand new backyard! How cute!
Little Bit Funky posted a tutorial for this super cool skateboard swing. This is such a great idea–I can’t believe no one thought of this before! All you have to do is string an old skateboard with strong rope and tie it to a tree. Your little boys are going to go crazy over this fun DIY project!
World of Lush Gardens posted a tutorial for building a planter out of paving stones. The construction isn’t very hard, but the effect is so professional and elegant! I love how the stones help define the edge of the grass and make the dirt & mulch areas look more sophisticated.
eHow posted the directions for making this awesome concrete fire pit bowl. This would be totally stunning in any backyard and a great centerpiece for outdoor parties. Concrete projects take a little time & effort, but with results like this, you’ve got to try! This fire pit is just begging for some people to roast hot dogs on it!!
Momma Did It posted a tutorial for making and outdoor ring toss that’s perfect for evening parties in your backyard. The pole itself is easy to install, and glow necklaces make a perfect hoop for the game. Your kids will have so much fun playing with this, the adults may want to join in!
Stagetectureposted an idea for outdoor planters that is simply brilliant! You can spray paint any planter with glow-in-the-dark paint so that in the evening, your planters shine! The effect is just breathtaking. And it’s so easy to do! Just paint the planters you’ve already got in the backyard. They’ll thank you for it.
Homemade Toast posted a tutorial for making the ultimate outdoor water bed! Kids will love playing with this huge mattress of water! I mean what could be more fun?! This isn’t a very difficult project, and your kids will be entertained for hours. Watch out though, you may end up attracting the entire neighborhood!
Joyful Toddlers posted a tutorial for growing this beautiful plant teepee. This is a great summer hideaway for kids and adults! You can enjoy picnics, conversations, or soothing naps within the natural comfort of its green walls. Just make sure you plan ahead! This project takes some time to grow 😉
And one of my favorites! My husband has an unreasonable aversion to all things messy, and this includes sand. Check out this hack that I found on the Pinky Princess– It will make having a sandbox a piece of cake:)
