One of my youngest kids (bless his heart) has been struggling with a rough bout of insomnia lately. When we had taken him to the doctor to find him some relief and came up short, I decided to try natural sleep remedies instead. Implementing these tips into our routine has helped him fall asleep faster, and stay asleep throughout the duration of the night. These sleep tips are truly incredible!
Tips That Will Help You Fall Asleep Faster
Lower The Room Temperature
Have you ever wondered why your feet and hands heat up so much when it’s time to go to sleep? Believe it or not, it’s part of the sleep cycle. Because of these dramatic changes in bodily temperature, it can be tricky to fall asleep. Lower your household temperature by a few degrees at night to help mitigate these changes in temperature.
Get On A Schedule
Like it or not, human beings are creatures of habit! If you develop a “nighttime routine” of sorts, you can help get your mind ready for bedtime. You might do things like take a bath, read a book, or eat a small snack to get ready to go to sleep. No matter what you do, get on a schedule, make it a routine, and stick to it! It could be just what you need to help your sleep troubles.
Exercise During The Day
Physical activity is said to be crucial to help human beings get to sleep and stay asleep longer. Get moderate exercise in the mornings to reap the maximum benefits and leave you feeling worn out and ready for bed by days end.
Turn Off All Electronics
This goes without saying but I felt that I had to mention it! Electronic devices emit a sort of “blue light” that is horrible when going to sleep. Help your brain relax and shut down by sticking to a rule to never use electronics past a certain hour.
Limit Caffeine
If you are sensitive to the effects of caffeine, it’s best to refrain from usage as much as six hours before bedtime. Instead, opt for beverages like decaffeinated herbal teas (chamomile is lovely!) or even just decaffeinated coffee!
Try Over The Counter Medications
If you can’t get to sleep, no matter how hard you try, an over the counter medication might be the best solution for you. Talk to a doctor about using things like Melatonin, or CBD extract to help get to sleep at night. Supplements like Magnesium and Theanine are said to be helpful as well.
