I love being environmentally friendly whenever I can. I love swapping out items around my house for things that are less hazardous and more sustainable. And in the long run, making these changes are often a lot cheaper, too because you are purchasing items much less frequently! Here are some easy ways to make your home a little more green. With these tips, it’s so easy being green. In fact, you can make any one of these changes in just a days time. Why not try it out?
Tips On Green Living
Use Canvas Bags Instead Of Plastic
One of the easiest ways to go green is to switch out all of your plastic grocery bags for reusable canvas ones. Bring the canvas bags along with you to the grocery store, and give them to the bagger when it’s time to check out. Not only does making the switch reduce the amount of garbage in landfills, but you’ll be less likely to end up with a broken grocery sack when using canvas. Plus, some grocery stores offer discounts when canvas bags are used instead of plastic.
Start A Compost Pile
Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a gardener, starting a compost pile is still a great way to keep unwanted food waste out of the landfill. Start a compost pile by keeping a little bin under your kitchen sink for food waste and other scraps like vegetable peelings and eggshells. Gift your compost pile to a neighbor who loves to garden, or mix it into your own soil. Who knew you could literally create “garden treasure” out of trash! Switch To LED
It’s pretty incredible, but you can save tons of money (and you can save the Earth) just by switching to LED light bulbs. LED bulbs can last twice as long as traditional light bulbs and they’re actually quite a bit brighter than regular light bulbs. It’s a win-win!
Install A Low Flow Showerhead
Save water, without compromising the time spent in the shower! Install a low flow showerhead to help reduce the amount of water used while showering. You’ll notice a huge difference when you get your next water bill! Additionally, help save water (and plastic) by refusing to buy bottled water. Fill up reusable water bottles instead, purchase one of my favorite reusable water bottles on Amazon.
Ditch Plastic Wrap
Ditch the plastic wrap and use bee wax wraps instead. These wax wraps are easily washable, shapable, and are a great way to keep your food fresh for days to come. Simply rinse and reuse when done! Learn more about bee wax wraps here.
