Have you heard of the book nook trend? I only heard of it a few weeks ago but I have already become completely obsessed. A book nook is a cute little insert that tucks between the books on your bookshelf. The nook is designed to look like a miniature alleyway, home, or even a street road. It’s basically a whole new (miniature!) world on your bookshelf. Pretty cool right? Take a look below for some of my favorite book nook shelf insert ides.
Book Nook Ideas
When first designing your nook, it is important to discuss what kind of vibe you are going for. If you are a Harry Potter fan, a mini Diagon Alley could be easy to create! Additionally, you could create a book nook under stairs (make it look like Harry’s room of course!). I’ve even seen book nook window inserts designed to make it look like it is a magical bookstore.
You could even design your book nook to look reminiscent of a dark New York City alleyway (minus the rats, of course!). As you can see, there are MANY designs to choose from. You just have to pick the one that works best for you.
Cozy Ideas
One of my favorite parts about DIY book nooks is that they look so cozy. If your book nook doesn’t look cozy, then I really wouldn’t consider it a book nook! To make your space a cozy, magical escape, I recommend installing mini lighting throughout the area. You can purchase miniature lighting for projects like this on Amazon. Check out the stuff for model train usage..they’re just the right size for a mini book nook.
Additionally, part of making your nook cozy is filing it with cozy furniture! Use pieces of dollhouse furniture to complete the interior of your little book nook. If you don’t have mini furniture to use yourself in this project, you can purchase some for relatively inexpensive on Amazon as well.
Ideas For Kids
If your kids aren’t big Harry Potter fans, it might be tricky to determine how to design a nook for them. Fortunately, there are some really creative ideas out there! For example, a great idea for kids would be to turn the little section into a park. Fill it with fake grass and other fake items and will look like you can escape into nature right from your bookshelf.
Additionally, you could turn one into a little library with rows and rows of mini books, complete with bean bags on the floor. You could even design a nook around their favorite book at the time…no matter what it might be. The options are endless.
