I’ve always been a salty over sweet kind of girl! A candy bar or sweet treat almost never beats a salty mid-afternoon snack! But my love for salt doesn’t just end with how I prefer my food to taste! I love to use it in my beauty routine and around my house wherever (and whenever) I can. It’s true: salt has a variety of everyday uses outside of spicing up your food! But don’t worry, I’m going to share them all with you! Check out a few of my favorite salt tips and my favorite things to use salt for.
Get Rid Of Puffy Eyes
We’ve all been there, whether it be be due to a late night or allergies salt tips like this one does wonders to stop the puffiness. To help, dissolve a teaspoon of salt into a cup full of warm water. Once the salt has dissolved, dip cotton balls into the salt water and then place over your eyes. Leave on your eyelids for five minutes and you’ll notice a huge difference when done. Such a great thing to use salt for!
Stop Itchy Bug Bites
Mosquito bites are a total vibe killer! There’s nothing that worsens a camping trip quite like an itchy bite that just won’t go away. Most campers will probably have salt on hand for cooking but it’s a great way to stop that pesky itch as well. Make a paste out of salt and water and then rub it on the offending bug bite. Let sit for five minutes!
Make A Homemade Face Scrub
Regular skin exfoliation is necessary for keeping a healthy complexion! Mix 1/4 cup of salt with a 1/2 cup of oil (use coconut, olive, whatever you would like) and rub all over skin in circular motions. The salt will get rid of dead skin cells in a flash. This is one of the best things to use salt for!
Chill Drinks Faster
Looking for more salt tips? Here’s one: if you don’t want to wait for your drinks to get cold in the fridge (it’s always the worst when you want a soda RIGHT when you’ve gotten home from the store). For fast drink-chilling, place beverages in a bowl of ice cold water, with a handful of salt and tons of ice. The salt lowers the freezing point of the water, so the drinks will be icy in as little as five minutes (that’s the magic number here!)
Clear Cloudy Glasses
Create a paste out of white vinegar and salt and use it to clear up cloudy vases or drinking glasses. The salt scrubs away the residue while the acidic vinegar removes the minerals that cause the cloudiness.
Make Your Toothbrush Last Longer
Other great things to use salt for include soaking a new toothbrush in salt water before using for the first time. This will stiffen up brush bristles and help prevent fraying over time.
