Doesn’t life just get so exhausting sometimes? Whether it’s because of something at work, s at home, or a combination of the two; life can get completely overwhelming. When you’re in a funk like this, sometimes a few quick pick-me-up ideas is just what the doctor ordered!
Pick-Me-Up Ideas
The next time you aren’t feeling quite like yourself, sit down in a nook full cozy pillows, break out your best journal and create a pick-me-up list full of ideas that create an instant boost of happiness. Here are some different lists you could make!
Pick-Me-Up Lists
Quotes
It’s amazing what little sayings can do to pick your spirits up. When I am down, I find an uplifting, positive, and inspirational quote and write it down on a sticky note, or type it as a note in my phone. Research has shown that when you write something down, you remember it better. In fact, I have a book of these kind of quotes on my coffee table.
Throughout the day I refer to the quote and how I can weave it into my life. Give it a try! It’s worked wonders for me. Don’t forget, a little note with a positive quote also works for others who might be having a down day.
Books
Ahh…one of my most favorite pick-me-up ideas! Think hard about this one, try to remember all of those recommendations your coworkers gave you and all of those appealing covers you saw at Barnes and Noble ;). You can put any kind of book on this list, if it looks appealing to you, write it down. Even if it’s a children’s book!
Pick-Me-Up Afternoon: Self Care
A list of self-care ideas? You betcha! This list should be of hobbies, activities, or anything else that gets you instantly happy. This list is all about YOUR self-care, so make it as in-depth as you are. Some potential things to include on this list are:
1. Go for a run–the distance of said run is totally up to you!
2. Listen to music–even the most depressing, if that’s what you need!
3. Get a pedicure–because there’s no better pick-me-up.
Favorite Memories
Writing this list is one of my favorite things to do because it’s so much fun to look back on. If you’re feeling down, or you know, if you just feel like it, write a list of your favorite memories. The memories you choose to feature should have happened within the last twelve months, so you focus on the “now.”
Alternatively, you can create a list of favorite memories from every milestone in life!
Recipes
It’s time to head to your Pinterest profile and dig through the recipe boards that you’ve been pinning to for years to find the most scrumptious looking recipes! The next time you’re in the mood, make a special effort to try all of the recipes on your list.
No recipes are off limits here, you can feature as many brownies, cookies, or pizza recipes as you want…just as long as you really do try them all! You can even leave yourself a review for future reference.
Travel Dreams
Greece, Italy, Belize, Chile, and Costa Rica are just a few of the places scribbled on my travel dreams list…but I have over 100 other places on mine as well! Carry the list in your wallet and break it out when you need a reminder of what you’re working for!
A List of Gift Ideas to Give
Is it just me, or does giving a gift provide you with a happiness that lasts all day? Create a list of gifts that you would like to give to people who are important to you. You’ll love having this list when it comes time for their birthday or Christmas, and it’s fun to give little gifts all year long.
You could also make a list of gifts that you would like to receive. It’s important to splurge on yourself, too!
Favorite Movies
And right after you make this list, you have to sit down with a few of your very best friends and watch every single one of them! I recommend making a list of favorite movie snacks immediately after..but that list can be thrown away after a run to the grocery store. 😉
Favorite Music
Or, you know, a playlist! Head on over to Spotify to create a playlist of your favorite tunes (this playlist can even be part of your pick-me-up ideas: self-care list!). The best part is that it can be added to whenever, so you can make sure it stays updated with your current favorites.
Favorite Restaurants
Price or locations are no object here….this is your dream list! Remember to include a croissant from that cafe in Paris or a slice of pizza from a vendor in New York; if you’ve ever craved it, add it to the list. You could even include restaurants mentioned in books or television shows (Gossip Girl fans would be pleased to know that Butter is on my list!)
TV Shows
If you don’t know which television show this set belongs to, then you already have one to add to your list! This set is from the show Friends and I strongly believe that everyone should watch an episode at least once. If you haven’t already, consider watching LOST, too!
