Anyone can buy a wedding gift, but if you want to truly buy the couple a wedding gift that they will treasure forever, take a look at these thoughtful and unique wedding gift ideas. You’ll be so glad that you did!
1.Personalized Wedding Gifts
I received a baking dish that had my {new} last name etched on the bottom for my wedding 10 years ago. It was my very favorite gift. It is so exciting to become united and every little memento that reminds you of your new union is unique and special. I have been married more than 10 years, but I still want to buy one of these cutting boards. Find this unique and thoughtful wedding gift at Cheers Gift Shop and it is still well within the “wedding gift” budget!
2. Embroidery
If you are a top-notch seamstress, this would be perfect. Purchase some linens as a gift to the couple. Instead of giving them the plain ol’ linens, add a touch of embroidery. You could do this by hand, or you could take it to a seamstress. Imagine receiving a gift of gorgeous hand stitched linens!
Framed Wedding Invitation
If you are short on cash, but what to give a really meaningful gift, consider giving the bride and groom a copy of their wedding invitation. Have the invitation professionally framed, or follow these instructions on how to do it yourself. Sentimental gifts such as these often mean more than a typical blender or coffee maker.
3. Date Night In
Money Crashers suggests providing the newlywed couple with a box full of “date night in” staples. As a newly married couple, money tends to be a bit tight, so going out isn’t always an option! Fill the box with a great blanket, a classic movie (maybe a romantic film for her, and an action flick for him!), wine or vintage soda, candy, and of course popcorn! The basket shouldn’t cost much to put together, and it will give the newlyweds a great excuse to spend the night in!
4. Honeymoon Gear
It’s likely that the newly married couple is going somewhere tropical for their honeymoon. Provide the couple with must-have items for their beach vacation. Include beach towels, tanning lotion, and some beach reads. Or, for the European travelers, provide the pair with cool luggage tags, passport holders, and guide books for the countries they are visiting. Chances are, they’ve been so busy planning the wedding that small aspects like this for the honeymoon have been overlooked. This is your opportunity to save the day!
5. Give the Gift of an Experience
Another great idea from Money Crashers is to give the gift of an experience. The couple is going to get plenty of household items, so mix it up! Give the couple a membership to a local gym, a subscription to Netflix, tickets to concerts or a festival, certificates good for cooking classes, or gift certificates for a date night. It’s memories like these that will be remembered, and probably not which hand towels they received!
6. Put Love on the Map
If you know the couple’s engagement story, create a custom map of where the question was popped. If the couple was engaged in Paris, create a map marking the spot where it happened. Customize the map further with their names and wedding date. Idea from Real Simple.
7. Snack Break
If you are really looking to leave an impression as a creative gift giver, this one is for you. Buy the couple a membership to a snack of the month club (yes, these exist!). Memberships begin at $30 for three months and can be purchased at Mouth.com. Snacks sent vary from chocolate popcorn, jerky, or salsa. There is truly something for everyone!
8. Cook Books
For the couple that may not be the best cooks. Five classic cookbooks are shown off in this great shelf style.
9. The Daily Grind
Perfect for the coffee addict. Give a subscription to a coffee of the month club. Much like the snack club, different varieties of coffee are delivered to your door monthly.
10. Work of Art
Show the couple that their love is a work of art. By giving them, well, a work of art! If you feel that you know the style of the couple well, pick a unique piece from a local artist. If done correctly, this can be a lasting gift that is forever hung in their home. These great prints are from Rob Ryan.
11. Turn Up the Music
Music is said to be the soul of language. Give the couple a vintage record player with classic records, or favorite tunes. You could also include a gift card to a local music store so they can further their collection. Crosley is a great starting brand and can be purchased here.
12. Coasters
I just ordered these coasters and had them custom-made with my husband’s company logo on them for all of his employees (no more ruined desks!) I got them in the mail yesterday and I am in love with them! What a great wedding gift, too. You can customize them with any design; initials, logos, or family brand for their wedding. They are thoughtful, unique and definitely won’t break the bank. You can find them at Cheers Gift Shop, which is my new favorite.
13. Donations
If you are attending a wedding where the couple insists that gifts aren’t necessary, it may be a good idea to make a donation in their name. Choose a cause that is near to their heart, and print off a certificate (if possible) showing the couple that a donation was made in their name. Idea from Shea Homes.
14. Personalized Apron
For the cooking couple in your life, give personalized aprons. These would be great when cooking together, and look just as great if they are cooking alone! These aprons can be purchased from Getting Personal.
15. Letters to The Bride
Perfect as a gift from the maid of honor, have close friends and family write letters to the bride. Wrap these letters in ribbon, or place them in a photo album. This heartfelt gift is sure to leave the bride shedding a few tears so consider including a box of tissues!
16. Utensils
Forget giving just a box of kitchen utensil, wrap the utensils in a ribbon and use flowers as an accent. Creating the perfect utensil bouquet! Kitchen utensils are an important part, but are often forgotten about! There’s nothing more frustrating than not having a tool you need!
17. DIY Candles
You heard me, you can DIY this amazing, personalized gift. Use logs to create a meaningful candle holder sure to wow your couple. There is something incredibly romantic about seeing your initials carved into a tree! Here are the instructions from The Dating Diva.
18. Journals
I know what you’re thinking, a journal? Yes, a journal. The newlywed couple is going to be embarking on a life-changing adventure. Give them a great tool to document all the good, bad, and the ugly along the way. What a great thing to give a daughter one day! Find this beautiful journal at Smythson.
19. Flowers
Good Housekeeping came up with this idea. If the couple registered for a vase, register them for monthly flower deliveries. There has to be something to fill those vases! Sign up for frequent deliveries here.
20. Anniversary Celebration
Fill with wine or other great treats to mark the first three years of marriage. The first three are the toughest!
Paul Carlson says
An anniversary sundial (a clock that uses the sun to tell time) is a great idea, after we got one for our wedding several years ago we now give them to our friends and family when they get married. The one we have is made of glass and designed to sit indoors on the window sill and make rainbows in the room when the sun shines. The coolest thing of all is that it was handmade just for us, and it has a special date line on it that the time shadow follows on our anniversary day each year…and it has a special mark on that line that the shadow touches at the actual time we got married! So cool…you can find it online with a search…we always get the certificate that lets the couple have it made for wherever in their home they want it. Its a great wedding gift for when we have to travel, and it’s way more fun than getting housewares etc. from a bridal registry!
