Reupholster a bench seat with my fast and easy DIY tutorial! It’s a great way to revamp the look of your existing furniture, without spending too much money. With some fabric (I find all of mine at Fabric.com), a staple gun, and maybe a finish touch or two, it’s easy to reupholster a bench seat. Keep reading to see just how I made it happen.
Here’s what you’ll need to reupholster a bench:
-a fabric of your choosing
-staple gun
-scissors
-trim (if desired)
Step One: After you have determined which bench seat needs a little extra TLC, lay out the fabric on your bench. Position it so it is perfectly straight before beginning. You may need to sew two pieces together to make it fit your bench seat.
Step Two: After the fabric is perfectly straight on the seat, use your staple gun to secure it to the bench. Pull it tight for the best look. I just stapled the new fabric to the old stuff, you couldn’t see it through the new fabric and I didn’t mind.
Step Three: When it comes to the corners, fold “in” the fabric and secure it with another few staples. Simply fold over one edge of the fabric to create a nice finish on the corners.
Step Four: After your fabric is completely secure, its time to trim off any excess. Trim off the fabric, but leave about a half inch of fabric just below the staples. This will be cleaned up later.
Step Five: Clean up the leftover fabric by covering it up with some decorative trim! You can find great trim ideas at Michaels, and I love all of the options! I attached mine with a little bit of hot glue to finish off the bench.
Step Six: That’s it! After the trim has been secured, all that’s left to do is to enjoy your new bench!
