Meet the diffuser. It’s a great hair tool for styling wavy and curly hair. It attaches to the end of your blow dryer and “diffuses” the air so you get a gentle drying without over-blowing. Here are the steps to creating that perfect diffused look:1. Start with wet hair. If it is really tangled, finger through it or use a wide-tooth comb, but don’t brush. You want to take advantage of your natural wave.
2. Apply a styling product intended for curly hair. I prefer mousse, but you can use a cream, gel, or spray too. You might also want to use an anti-frizz product either before or after you diffuse.
3. Time to diffuse! For maximum body, diffuse with your head upside down, hair dangling down. Also diffuse with your head leaned to either side. Scrunch your hair with your hands as you dry.
4. Depending on your hair’s personality, you may not want to dry it all the way. I find that if I leave mine slightly damp, my natural wave dries the rest of the way nicely on its own—and it reduces the frizz.
5. Once your hair is mostly dry, touch up any flat sections with a curling iron.
6. Hold your style in place with a spritz of hairspray, and you’re good to go!
