I don’t really like cleaning, but I really like a good cleaning trick! Tips & tricks can make all the difference when you’re toiling away, trying to spruce up the house. I’ve compiled some truly life changing cleaning tips & tricks that you won’t believe you hadn’t thought of. Get ready to feel inspired to clean–I guarantee you’ll want to try all of these tricks!
Judith’s Mama posted a trick for cleaning a Foreman grill that is genius! After cooking on the grill, dampen a paper towel and fold it up. Place it in the grill and put the lid down. The heat will steam the wet towel and when the grill cools you’ll be able to scrub it down so easily!
Home Depot posted a trick that literally everyone needs to try. In your toilet brush holder, pour in some all purpose cleaner. This will help keep the brush clean. And let me tell you, the last thing you want sitting in your bathroom is a dirty toilet brush!!
Mrs. Hine’s Class posted this cleaning tip that is such a no-brainer.When you’re finished using your toilet brush, place it under the lid of the seat so that it can drip dry for a little bit. This is an easier and more sanitary way to make sure your toilet brush stays nice and clean.
Broccoli Cupcake posted a tutorial for shining the chrome in your bathroom or kitchen. And the secret cleaning product is a lemon!! I would never have guessed. I hate when my shower heads and sink faucets get that grimy look. Now that I know this trick, I’ll never let that happen again!
Life Cheating suggests cleaning your toilets with Coca-Cola. This is a great way to really deep clean your toilet bowl. The secret to this trick is leaving the Coca-Cola in for several hours. In needs to sit and soak the toilet for a while to really work effectively. However, just be sure to use an antibacterial cleaner also, as Coca-Cola does not have any antibacterial properties.
Apartment Therapy suggests cleaning off baseboards with dryer sheets! This is an easy way to collect all that dust that builds up in the nooks and crannies. And your baseboards will smell nice & fresh like clean laundry when you are done . . . what could be better!?
A Real-life Housewife posted a tutorial for cleaning off your toaster! I never knew this before, but apparently the best thing to use is cream of tartar! Mixed with a little water and scrubbed off with a sponge, cream of tarter will make your toaster shine. Just like your morning!
Real Simple says that applying car wax to your gas burning stove top will help eliminate grime build up! This sounds like an awesome trick to me. I hate how dirty my stove gets, and it’s really such a pain to clean it off. With this trick, I won’t have to!
What’s Up Fagans posted a tutorial for getting really dirty and grimy pans to shine like they’re brand new! Once you’ve tried their trick, you’ll never go back to living with dirty dishes, guaranteed!
Gibson Family of 3 recommends buying scrub brushes with a soap handle. These brushes are so awesome! You pour a little dish soap into the handle, and as you’re washing your dishes, the soap comes out and gets things clean! So easy and so much less messy than pouring soap on dishes yourself!

The lemon DOES NOT WORK!!!
Anna
Great tip, but a no no if you have kids or pets.
Trish
Love the George Forman grill tip! I hate cleaning that thing.
Grace
I discovered this method long ago, but I add a bit of dishwashing detergent to the wet paper towel. It still takes some rubbing so have your grease tray in position.
Grace
BTW, for cleaning bathroom chrome fixtures, I have always used lemon oil with great success.
Peg
Wiping clean shower walls with Lemon Oil also keeps soap scum from building up….and makes the bathroom smell great!
Shirley Knack
Better yet, use two sheets of foil on top and bottom of food…….no cleaning!
Linda
I put the paper over the grill before cooking, and another layer over the food. No cleaning at all. Just throw away the paper after cooking.

Well I don’t use my grill, I have a dry/hot air fryer which will deal with most grilling , cheese on toast I do in the microwave spread a little mustard on the cheese first. All the washing up is done in the dishwasher.
Pat
I’ve been doing that. It’s the only way to clean it.
Donna
I just want to know more. I’m always up for something ‘new!’

coke has a pretty strong acid in it. If you put a penny in some coke the penney will eventually disintegrate.
Lora Serra
And we drink this?
Pam
Lemon juice will ‘eat’ metal too yet no-one ever seems to think it odd that we eat/drink that! Soda is just fashionable to ‘demonize’ these days.

Citric acid is present in both lemons and soda. There’s a lot more in lemons. But soda also contains a small amount of phosphoric acid – no huge deal. Artificial flavoring – not a biggy. Then we have to consider that it has caramel coloring, which is a known carcinogen. It’s got TONS of refined sugar which a major cause of inflammation, dental decay, obesity, and diabetes. Carbonation has been shown in a controlled study to lower bone density in people who consume it regularly. Then there’s the caffeine, which is the reason people don’t have serious sugar crashes after drinking it.
None of those things is food. And some is basically just BAD. But people pound it instead of water.
Lemons do have citric acid. But people don’t consume it habitually. Lemons have TONS of vitamin C and fiber and potassium, and are great antioxidants. They are GOOD for you and promote health. The small amount of naturally occurring sugar is meaningless against the weight of the healthy ingredients.
It’s not “fashionable to demonize” soda. It’s just FACT that it’s bad for you, and depletes your health, rather than promote it, like lemons and other citrus (and water) do.
Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
Redbull lover
Bahahaha all so true, I have only drank water for years. I don’t drink coffee or colas or eat chocolate etc etc, I drink a sugar free Redbull everyday and get bashed constantly for it. Sure it probably isn’t great for me but at least it isn’t added to a long list of other bad things I drink, water & a sugar free Redbull, now tell me how many cups of coffee (with how much sugar) and how many colas have you had today, yeah so shut it. People just want to preach about what others are doing wrong, they search to find something wrong in everything everyone else is doing.

You tell ’em! Great comment…and so true

Amber
You know I’ve never tried! I would go ahead and try, but I’m not entirely sure if it would work.

On cleaning the Foreman – I used this method for several years. It finally dawned on me that this is the reason the nonstick surface peels off. No more loss of nonstick coating now.
ALHS
Are you saying that using this method ruined your nostick surface?
Connie Hannegan
what did you use to clean your george foreman. I have had mine for years and need to clean the back and bottom
Denise
Just to add to the post on baseboards and Bounce. I have read, haven’t had a chance to try just yet that Bounce helps keep dust off things like window blinds, ceiling fans, and I would imagine does well on things like closet doors if they have those designs to them like the squares inside of the square thing. I guess anything you can think of like that.

I’ve tried to use dryer sheets as an anti-duster, but I found that it left a bit of a residue and wasn’t nearly as effective as was claimed. Maybe I used the wrong brand?
Susan Sias
I heard on the internet somewhere to use once used dryer sheets, that way you do not have the residue!
mikki
Do you wet the bounce sheet or leave it dry for baseboards and blinds?

I wouldn’t put just any car wax on your stove. Most are flammable. Especially Turtle wax. Look for non flammable products.

When youhave cleaned all the dirt and grime of the stainless steel bit of the hob wipe dry and put baby oil on a dry cloth and smooth over the surface,
It keeps the hob looking shiney till you use it again.
Also makes easy cleaning the next time.

I have quesion about the pan cleaning tip. What is it? When I clicked on the link it went nowhere. Could you let me know? Now I’m really curious 🙂

I had to click on it a couple of times. They used a product called bar buddy which is sold in powder form at target or spray form at Walmart. It looked to be pkged in the same way as comet.

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to clean grout??
Pati
Scrub grout very well. I use commercial cleaner especially for grout, then seal WELL. I sealed the grout in our shower every 6 months for 2 years. I quickly squeegie the walls after every showed (takes 70 seconds) then use commercial cleaner (spray on tile cleaner) about once every 18 months. Our shower grout walls and floor is off white and still looks great 22 years later! The key is to seal it and keep it clean – clean means dry it off a bit. leave your shower door open a little bit after the shower and use a fan.
A tile layer (who tiled our kitchen and dining room) told us to use white vinegar to seal floor grout and it has worked – but we have only tried it on darker grout, but water still beads up. To seal any tile use a brush to brush it on — use a brush as wide as the grout and it goes quickly. A child’s paint box brush works well for narrow grout lines.

Bleach on an old sock once a week. I delete it with a little water
Suz
I have tried the coke in the toilet several different times, but it never worked for me!
Stuart Yates
Perhaps you’re using the wrong brand, I’m yet to find the right one I might try some white vinegar.
Carol
I used to wash my grout with a solution of bleach and water, just to make sure it was clean. Then I applied white shoe polish…the kind with a sponge applicator… then immediately wiped it off with a soft cloth. It completely wipes off the tile but leaves the grout so nice and white.

Sorry but I’m one of those folks who believe that you’d like to make your site as professional as possible (and my unasked-for-assistance offered here not to be critical but in a spirit of generosity) is a suggestion to fix the typo found within the following quotation.
“I never knew this before, but apparently the best thing to use is cream of tarter.”
Cream of tartar would have been found with a spell check.
After years of proofreading as a profession, I cannot help myself. Please understand that I hope you’re feeling supported by my feedback. I know that writing a blog is a job – it’s a lot of work! I’ve tried it & found it simply wasn’t for me.
Best of luck

Lil time saver…I bought one of the long handled brushes tht U fill w dish soap & keep it in the shower. Then ..since I’m already there…lol..when my conditioner is in my hair or whatever I’ll do a bit of scrubbing! LoL Also, old exfoliating gloves make some of the best cleaning tools U will ever use! When I used to have Aquariums..couldn’t beat them for algae scrubbers! ?
